A Beach Day in the Bahama Cays

When Christopher Columbus first set foot in the New World, he did so in the Bahamas. With a total landmass of more than 5,000 square miles spread over 100,000 square miles of water, the Bahamas chain is larger by far than any of the Caribbean island groups yet only 30 of its 700 islands are inhabited. Swimming, fishing, scuba, and snorkeling enthusiasts love the Bahamas as they occupy two shallow marine plateaus separated from each other—and from North America and the Greater Antilles—by deep ocean trenches.  When the sun’s rays reflect off the white sands and waters, the blue tones are breathtaking! Back on the shore you can climb the observation tower, join a beach volleyball game, hike a few trails or visit a local craft market. Your ship’s crew will stage a beach barbeque for your casual carefree day in the sun.  Be sure to leave enough time to relax on the beach though.  There is nothing better than sipping a cool drink while listening to the waves, and soaking up a few rays.

Remember, at any time you can pack up your beach bag and return to your ship on the small tender boats to enjoy a massage, shower, or snooze before the ship sails off to the next port of call.
